December 14, 2002 “The High Winter Conventicle”
In-game Location: The home of Wilton Wickerbridge, Boughton-on-the-Bend, Sylphmoor, Orenvale
OOG Location: The Slusser Home, Running Springs, CA
Synopsis:
The High Winter Conventicle of the Grand Mystic Royal Order of the Sagacious Brotherhood of Alchemists, Enchanters, and Magikal Knockabouts took place in the stately home of Wilton Wickerbridge, the eldest of the Brothers still in service. Hobberick Bramblethorn, the current Grand Vizier and Knight of the Oracle, presided over a great many grand officers of the order, as well as several Candidates for inclusion into the order. Interrupting the constant flow of good food, drink, and tobacco, both a Gesni and an Icaran soldier payed attendence, answering various questions about their respective governments' motives and assuring the hobbits that neither nation harbored ill will toward the Shires--indeed, they made promises to protect Orenvale against carnivorous horses, dangerous cheeses, and bandits wearing other people's clothing. Three of the four Candidates were accepted after difficult trials, in which an otherworldy visitor knocked over a great deal of food and made himself a nuisance; a casting of random spells lead to love and disappearance; one hobbit nearly blew himself up with his pipe; and one candidate was made to drink fermented urine and a bird's internal organs in a humorous manner. Tales of evil rodents, vests with the power of far-smelling, and a mass poisoning of the enemies of the Shire capped off another splendid and portentious year.
